Carla Esparza's record is not perfect, as she has lost to Jessica Andrade, Claudia Gadelha, and Randa Markos. She also had close calls with Jessica Andrade, Weili Zhou, and Marina Rodriguez. This could be seen as a red flag given her five-fight winning streak.

Carla Esparza, despite suffering nerve damage in 2007, has been able return to action in recent times. Rose Namajunas beat her to win the UFC strawweight crown in May. She is expected to defend her title in November against Zhang Weili, the former champion. She recently posted a status update on social media about her fight camp.

Esparza was injured in the accident and went to the hospital. Her hospital bill was over $30,000, but she committed to fight. InvictaFC 7 was her next fight. She defeated Maya Hamasaki again. She later fought Claudia Gadelha, but Gadelha withdrew due to stomach illness.

Rose Namajunas defeated her twice in title fights.

Rose Namajunas is a former woman's lightweight champion and Carla Esparza has faced her in two title fights. Namajunas won the title in April and retained it in November. Although the fight was close, neither fighter managed to land a knockout. Official scorecards showed Esparza winning 48 to 47.

Esparza's record was 3-3 in 29 month prior to the title fight. However, Esparza's victory over Virna Jacinda in April 2019 set the tone for a 5-fight win streak. In a COVID-quiet UFC APEX Las Vegas event, she beat Yan Xiaonan. She finished in less than eight minutes. In June 2019, she won her title by knockout.
